Patrick Stewart

Patrick Stewart was born on this date in 1940. He is my favorite captain, by far. Here he is, at the helm of his ship:



Seriously, the made-for-TV version of Moby-Dick was quite good. Stewart, who is always quite good, was a perfect Ahab, as you can see.

As a serious Shakespearean actor, he has also done a pretty good Hamlet:



And he did a fine job as Frasier's misguided boyfriend:



Of course, there is a lot of baggage to be carried by someone who was the on the bridge of the Enterprise for seven years. This is one of my favorite Stewart clips:

Stewart has done movies, TV, animation, videogames, theater—you name it, he's knocked it cold. We can't wait to see what he does next.
